1. Our Approach to Privacy

The Wealth Academy Pty Ltd (The Wealth Academy, TWA, we, us or our) respects the privacy of individuals who access and use our educational resources and services.

We recognise that many of our educational resources are designed for teenagers and young people. We therefore seek to minimise the personal information we collect, particularly information relating to users under 18 years of age.

Our approach is to collect, hold, use and disclose only personal information that is reasonably necessary to operate and administer our educational services, or as otherwise permitted or required by law.

We do not require learners to disclose personal or family financial information as part of ordinary learning activities.

This Privacy Policy explains how we manage personal information and should be read together with our Terms of Use and applicable Intellectual Property and Content Use provisions.

2. Scope of this Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy applies to personal information collected by The Wealth Academy through:

  • The Wealth Academy websites;
  • our online course platform and learning services;
  • account creation, registrations and enrolments;
  • subscriptions;
  • enquiries and communications;
  • purchases and transactions;
  • surveys and feedback activities;
  • authorised school, institutional or organisational arrangements; and
  • other educational or digital services operated or administered by The Wealth Academy.

The Wealth Academy also produces educational publications and resources, including Teenfinca®, that may be accessed without the reader directly providing personal information to us.

Where our content contains links to third-party websites, applications or services, those third parties may collect and handle information under their own privacy policies and terms.

3. Personal Information We May Collect

The information we collect depends on the service being used.

We may collect:

  • name and contact details;
  • email address;
  • age or age-range information where reasonably necessary;
  • account and login information;
  • course enrolment, participation, progress and completion information;
  • communications with us, including enquiries and support requests;
  • information voluntarily provided through surveys or feedback;
  • transaction information associated with purchases or subscriptions; and
  • technical information reasonably necessary for website and platform operation, security and performance.

Payment information may be processed by third-party payment providers. The Wealth Academy does not ordinarily receive or store complete credit or debit card details.

We do not seek to collect personal information that is unnecessary for the provision of our educational services.

In particular, learners should not provide personal or family information about income, debt, financial hardship, savings, investments or other private financial circumstances unless there is a clear and legitimate reason to do so.

Where an educational activity invites reflection on financial circumstances, learners may use hypothetical examples or general scenarios rather than disclose private information.

4. Children and Young People

The Wealth Academy develops educational resources that may be accessed and used by children and young people.

We seek to apply principles of privacy by design and data minimisation to services intended for or likely to be accessed by younger users.

Where practicable:

  • young people should be able to access educational information without providing unnecessary personal information;
  • only the minimum information reasonably necessary to provide or administer an educational service should be collected;
  • sensitive information about children and young people should not be requested unless genuinely necessary and lawfully permitted;
  • information relating to younger users should not be retained for longer than reasonably necessary; and
  • our educational activities should not require young people to disclose private personal or family financial circumstances.

Where consent is required and a young person is not able to provide valid consent themselves, consent must be obtained from a parent, legal guardian or other person legally authorised to provide it.

Where access is arranged through a school or other authorised organisation, that organisation may be responsible for obtaining appropriate permissions or consents required for participation.

The Wealth Academy does not sell children's personal information.

We do not knowingly use children's personal information for targeted advertising.

If we become aware that personal information about a child or young person has been collected unnecessarily or without an appropriate basis, we will take reasonable steps to delete or de-identify that information where appropriate and permitted by law.

5. How We Collect Personal Information

We generally collect personal information directly from an individual when they:

  • create an account;
  • enrol in a course;
  • purchase or subscribe to a service;
  • contact us;
  • complete an authorised form, survey or feedback activity; or
  • otherwise interact with our website or services.

Information may also be collected through our online learning platform or other authorised technology providers when a user accesses or participates in a service.

In some circumstances, information may be provided to us by a parent, guardian, school, educational institution, employer, community organisation or other authorised organisation.

We may also automatically receive limited technical information associated with the operation, security and performance of our websites and digital services.

6. How We Use Personal Information

Where personal information is collected, we may use it to:

  • provide access to educational services and resources;
  • establish and administer authorised accounts;
  • manage enrolments, subscriptions and purchases;
  • provide course-related and service communications;
  • respond to enquiries and provide support;
  • administer participation, progress or completion information where required;
  • maintain the security and operation of our websites and platforms;
  • identify and resolve technical issues;
  • improve our educational services and user experience;
  • maintain appropriate business and transaction records; and

7. Schools and Other Organisations

The Wealth Academy resources may be made available through schools, educational institutions, employers, community organisations, sporting organisations or other authorised organisations.

Where institutional or organisational access is provided, we seek to minimise the personal information about individual learners supplied to The Wealth Academy.

Where practicable, the participating organisation should manage learner identification, permissions and consent.

The Wealth Academy should receive only the information reasonably necessary to establish, provide and administer the relevant educational service.

Where participation, progress or completion information is provided to an authorised organisation, the information provided will depend on the applicable arrangement, the purpose for which access has been provided and relevant privacy requirements.

8. Thinkific and Other Technology Providers

The Wealth Academy currently uses Thinkific Labs Inc. (Thinkific), a company headquartered in Canada, to host and deliver its online courses and related learning services.

When an individual creates an account or participates in a course through the Thinkific platform, personal information may be processed through Thinkific's systems and authorised service providers.

Thinkific currently advises that its production systems for the Thinkific platform are located in the United States.

The Wealth Academy may also use other technology, communications, hosting, security, payment and support providers where reasonably necessary to operate its services.

These providers may process personal information on our behalf or provide infrastructure through which information is processed.

9. Payments

Payments for courses, subscriptions or other services may be processed by authorised third-party payment providers.

The Wealth Academy does not ordinarily receive or store complete payment-card details.

Payment providers may collect and process information necessary to complete a transaction, prevent fraud and meet their own legal obligations.

Their handling of personal information may also be governed by their own privacy policies and terms.

10. Cookies, Analytics and Technical Information

Our websites and digital platforms may use cookies and similar technologies where reasonably necessary to:

  • enable core website functionality;
  • maintain account sessions;
  • maintain security;
  • understand general website usage;
  • identify technical problems; and
  • improve website and service performance.

We seek to minimise unnecessary tracking, particularly in relation to services intended for or likely to be accessed by young people.

Where analytics are used, we seek to use aggregated or de-identified information where reasonably practicable.

Users may be able to control certain cookies through their browser or device settings. Disabling some cookies may affect the operation of website or course functions.

11. Direct Marketing

The Wealth Academy may communicate with adults, organisations and authorised subscribers about educational resources, services and relevant developments where permitted by law.

Recipients may opt out of marketing communications at any time by using an available unsubscribe facility or by contacting us.

We do not knowingly use the personal information of children or young people for targeted direct marketing.

Communications reasonably necessary to administer an account, enrolment, purchase or educational service are service communications and are not treated as marketing communications.

12. Disclosure of Personal Information

We may disclose personal information where reasonably necessary:

  • to technology and service providers assisting us to operate and deliver our services;
  • to an authorised school, institution or organisation where required under an applicable educational arrangement;
  • to payment and transaction providers;
  • to professional advisers where reasonably necessary;
  • to protect our legal rights, users or the security of our services;
  • in connection with an authorised business or asset transaction, subject to appropriate confidentiality and legal requirements; or
  • where required or authorised by law.

The Wealth Academy does not sell personal information.

We seek to limit disclosures to information reasonably necessary for the relevant purpose.

13. Overseas Processing and Disclosure

The Wealth Academy uses third-party technology and service providers to operate and deliver its websites, online courses and digital educational services. Some providers are located outside Australia or may process or store information outside Australia.

In particular, The Wealth Academy uses Thinkific, a Canadian company, to host and deliver its online learning platform. Thinkific currently advises that its production systems and primary customer-data storage infrastructure are located in the United States.

Thinkific and other technology providers may use authorised sub-processors in other countries to provide particular infrastructure, security, communications, support and platform services.

Depending on the services used by The Wealth Academy and its technology providers, overseas recipients may be located in countries including the United States and Canada, and potentially other jurisdictions identified by the relevant service providers from time to time.

Where Australian privacy law applies to an overseas disclosure, The Wealth Academy will take reasonable steps to comply with applicable requirements under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.

We seek to minimise personal information disclosed overseas, particularly information relating to children and young people.

14. Artificial Intelligence

The Wealth Academy may use artificial intelligence and other digital technologies to assist with activities such as research, educational content development, editing, instructional design, multimedia production and administration.

Our general policy is that identifiable personal information about individual learners, particularly children and young people, should not be entered into public or general-purpose generative artificial intelligence systems unless there is a specific, authorised and privacy-compliant reason for doing so.

The Wealth Academy does not currently use artificial intelligence or automated decision-making systems to make significant decisions about individual learners based on their personal information.

If our use of artificial intelligence or automated systems changes in a way that materially affects the handling of personal information, we will review our practices and this Privacy Policy as appropriate.

15. Security

The Wealth Academy takes reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect personal information against misuse, interference, loss and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure.

Access to personal information should be limited to people and service providers who reasonably require access for an authorised purpose.

We also rely upon third-party technology providers to maintain appropriate safeguards for information processed through their systems.

No website, internet transmission or digital information system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

If we become aware of a data breach, we will assess and respond to it in accordance with applicable legal requirements.

16. Retention and Deletion

We seek not to retain personal information for longer than reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, subject to legal, administrative and legitimate business requirements.

Retention periods may differ depending on the type of information and the service involved.

Where personal information is no longer required and we are not legally required or otherwise permitted to retain it, we will take reasonable steps to destroy or de-identify it.

Particular care will be taken to avoid unnecessary long-term retention of personal information relating to children and young people.

Where practicable and lawful, individuals may interact with The Wealth Academy without identifying themselves or may use a pseudonym.

Identification may be required where it is reasonably necessary to:

  • create or administer an account;
  • provide a particular service;
  • process a transaction;
  • record enrolment or completion;
  • respond adequately to an enquiry; or
  • comply with legal requirements.

18. Access and Correction

Individuals may request access to personal information The Wealth Academy holds about them.

Individuals may also request correction of personal information they believe is inaccurate, out of date, incomplete, irrelevant or misleading.

We will respond within a reasonable period and in accordance with applicable privacy requirements.

In some circumstances, the law may permit or require us to refuse access or correction. Where required, we will explain the reason for doing so.

If you believe The Wealth Academy has not handled personal information appropriately, you may make a privacy complaint using the contact details below.

We will take reasonable steps to:

  • acknowledge and consider the complaint;
  • request further information where reasonably necessary;
  • investigate the matter as appropriate; and
  • advise you of the outcome.

We encourage individuals to contact us first so that we have an opportunity to investigate and respond.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you may be entitled to make a complaint to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).

20. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our educational services, technology, information-handling practices or legal and regulatory requirements.

The current version will be published on The Wealth Academy website and will display its effective date.

Where a material change significantly affects how we handle users' personal information, we will take reasonable steps to communicate the change where appropriate.

We will review this Privacy Policy following relevant changes to Australian privacy requirements applying to online services accessed by children and young people.
